Shingwedzi Rest Camp

The far North of Kruger National Park
- Leaving Mopani Rest Camp behind, approximately 70km North is Shingwedzi Rest Camp.  It’s a fairly large camp but certainly a firm favourite for our safaris.

It’s located on the Shingwedzi River where game viewing is generally excellent.
Several nights are recommended for this camp, its restaurant overlooks the river and is a great place for a meal and couple of cold refreshments.

The vegetation in the area is varied, fantastic riverine habitats and vast open expanses of mixed woodland and palms.  Just north of camp, Baobab trees (some of the oldest living trees in the world) start to become abundant.  There’s a large elephant population and huge bull elephants are encountered as well as substantial herds of buffalo.

General wildlife sightings are also excellent, there are some mammal and bird species not found elsewhere in Kruger.

There are far less tourists in the North of the Kruger Park and wherever we travel there is a constant sense of wilderness and remoteness.
